DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Ibni Sultan Sallehuddin graduated from Brunel University, United Kingdom and is a Barrister from the Inner Temple, England. Pursuant to the completion of his pupillage at Messrs Shearn Delamore & Co, DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1994. DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah started his career in Sime Darby and was attached to the Corporate Planning and Legal Department. His work there amongst others, were drafting and reviewing all types of agreement, trade mark matters and advisory. Later, he moved to the Industrial Relations Department and was involved amongst others, in domestic inquiries, retrenchment exercises and collective agreements.
In 1997, DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah left Sime Darby and joined Pesaka Jardine Fleming Sdn Bhd. Pesaka Jardine was in the business of financial advisory. In Pesaka Jardine, he was involved in compliance, secretarial and legal matters. He was also the company secretary for Jardine Fleming Apex Unit Trusts Berhad.
After Pesaka Jardine, DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah joined the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in late 1999.
Amongst the work which he was involved in MCMC were drafting and making amendments to relevant legislation, i.e. Acts, subsidiary legislation and instruments under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA). He was also involved in the drafting of regulatory documents such as the Spectrum Plan and Numbering and Electronic and Addressing Plan. In addition to that, he was involved in negotiating and the drafting agreement, in particular Agreement on Mobile Number Portability (MNP) and High Speed Broadband Agreement.
In MCMC, he was also in charge of its Secretarial requirements. He was a member of the Executive Committee and Licensing Committee.
DYTM Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah also represented MCMC at various overseas regulatory meetings, amongst others, he represented the Chairman by presenting a paper at the International Regulators Conference in London in 2007. He also spoke at various events and seminars locally.
Dato’ Dhanaraj Vasudevan DNS, DIMP is currently the Managing Partner of Kamil Hashim Raj & Lim. In 1996, he was called to the English Bar as an Utter Barrister and is a member of the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple, London. On his return to Malaysia, he was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1997.
Dato’ Dhanaraj was conferred the title of Darjah Setia Negeri Sembilan (DNS) in the year 2009 by the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan and the title of Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) in the year 2013 by the Malaysian state of Pahang.
He had short stint with one of the largest established English Solicitors firm known as Tylor, Joynson & Garrete gaining vast experience in handling civil litigation and corporate law. Dato’ Dhanaraj also worked with leading law firms such as Messrs Raja, Daryll & Loh handling general civil litigation matters, Messrs Rajadevan & Asssociates handling various criminal matters, and Messrs Siva Thurai Mariany & Co where he handled family and corporate matters under senior lawyer Dato’ Y. Sivaloganathan.
His forte is Litigation primarily in the areas of Civil, Criminal, Commercial, Company, Corporate, Building Construction, Recovery, Remedial, Arbitration and in Risk Management.
He also acts as a Lead Counsel for other firms of solicitors in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court and further also acts as an Advisor for several public listed companies on matters relating to their commercial and corporate legal affairs. Dato’ Dhanaraj is also the personal legal advisor to Dato’ Syed Budriz Putra, member of the Selangor Royal Household with title “Yang Dimulia Engku Maharaja Lela Setia Paduka”. Several matters handled by him have been considered and reported in leading Law Reports such as the Current Law Journal (CLJ), Malaysian Law Journal (MLJ) and All Malaysia Reports (AMR).
Lim Kim Meng completed his Bachelor of Laws Degree with the University of London in 1993, completed his Certificate of Legal Practice in 1994 and was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in May 1999.
He was a licensed Forex and Money Market Dealer on the proprietary trading desk in the Treasury Department (International Banking Group) with Southern Bank Bhd (1994 – 1997) and subsequently took on the role of Institutional Sales Dealer with HLG Securities (1997 – 1998) and was a member of the Malaysia Financial Markets Association prior to commencing legal practice.
He chambered in Messrs Allen & Gledhill in 1998 and set up the practice of Messrs Skelchy Lim & Tan in Klang in 1999 which was subsequently renamed KM Lim & Tan.
He was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director in Asia Brands Berhad in 2011 and served as a member on the Board’s Audit and Risk Management Committee and chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee until 2022.
He was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director in Minho (M) Bhd in 2021 and sits as a member on the Board’s Audit and Risk Management Committee and as chairman of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.
He has in-depth knowledge of real estate matters, conveyancing, debt recovery, KLSE listing requirements and working experience on recovery & remedial works as well as corporate take-overs and mergers.
Kalai Selvi P.M. Muthu, is a Partner in the Firm’s Civil Litigation department. She holds a LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of London and Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) from the Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Malaysia in 2006.
Kalai Selvi read law in the chambers of Messrs Kamil Hashim Pury & Lim in 2007 wherein she was handling general litigations matters and conveyancing during her chambering period with the Firm under Senior Partners, Dato’ Dhanaraj Vasudevan and Ms. Gauri Markandan respectively. Kalaiselvi, was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 25th January 2008.
Upon her admission to the Malaysia Bar in 2008, she continues to practice with Messrs Kamil Hashim Pury & Lim, Petaling Jaya as an Associate wherein at her initial days of her practice, she advocate and advise clients on areas of general civil litigation, Estate & Probate claims, Family matters in particular divorce cases, nullity of marriage and child custody. She also handled the portfolio for Malaysian Airlines System Berhad pertaining to breach of contractual agreements by cadet pilots during her early days of practice.
Kalaiselvi in her early years of practice had great opportunity to be one of the assisting associate with the prominent Malaysian Senior Lawyers in one of her client’s land dispute matter, which further enhance her advocacy skills in civil litigation. She also had many great opportunities to work with her mentor and Partner Dato’ Dhanraj Vasudevan on many high-profile cases of the firm, which not only enhance her advocacy skill but also engender her belief and confidence that she can do everything possible to help clients to succeed and the client’s best interest is always her paramount importance.
Kalaiselvi also has dealt with matters relating to Hire-Purchase transactions, foreclosure proceedings and all other forms of civil litigations in all tiers of the Courts in Malaysia and also have handled Employment & industrial relations matters and “running down” matters.
Kalai Selvi was appointed as a Partner of Messrs Kamil Hashim Raj & Lim in the year 2017 and currently she is heading the litigation department in the Firm. Kalaiselvi is active in the areas of general Civil litigation, Corporate & Commercial litigation, Estate & Probate claims and Family disputes. After graduating from the University of Malaya in 1972 with the Bachelor of Arts, Honours degree, Abdul Jalil Bin Mohamad joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972 until 1980. He resigned from the Foreign Service in March 1980 and begin his life in the private sector by joining Yeo Hiap Seng (M) Berhad as Personnel and Administration Executive.
In July 1981 he was selected to head the Industrial Relations Department of Malayan Banking Berhad, the largest local bank. Whilst at the bank he had the honour to serve amongst others, as President of Malayan Commercial Banks Association (MCBA), Treasurer of Malaysian Employers’ Federation (MEF) and a member of the National Labour Advisory Committee, a tripartite body comprising of representatives from the labour unions, employers’ association and from the government under the auspices of the Ministry of Human Resources.
In July 1985 he won a scholarship under the senior management development programme offered by Malayan Banking Berhad and he chose to read law at the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom. He graduated in July 1987 with honours, second class upper division. He returned to serve in bank and in October 1989 as a member of a team comprising of five executives were seconded as a first group by the bank to turn around Kwong Yik Bank.
Abdul Jalil Mohamad joined HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad in May 1990 as Industrial Relations Advisor.
Whilst at the bank he studied for his Certificate in Legal Practice (Malaysia) on a part time basis. After passing the examination in December 1993, he took no-pay leave in 1996 to read in chambers at Messrs P.S. Sohanpal & Sidhu. He was admitted to the High Court of Malaya in May 1997.
He returned to the bank to continue his work in industrial relations with an expanded portfolio that includes compensation management. Abdul Jalil Mohamad was also appointed to be a panel member in the Industrial Court representing the employers. Whilst at the bank he represented MCBA in their collective agreement dispute with Association of Bank Officers in the Industrial Court. He also represented the Sabah and Sarawak Commercial Banks Associations in their collective agreements disputes with their respective workers’ unions in the Industrial Court in additional to the bank’s collective agreement dispute with the officers’ union. He was send by MEF twice to Tokyo and Bangkok respectively, to represent Malaysian Employers at ILO regional conferences. He was also seconded to Rakyat Merchant Bank to undertake a project for six months at the request of Bank Negara Malaysia.
On mandatory retirement in 2003 from HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, he was employed by Malaysian International Shipping Corporation on contract basis for four years to head the Employee Relations Department. He became a partner in Messrs Kamil Hashim Pury & Lim in 2007 to strengthen the Industrial Relations Department of the firm.
However, in 2009 MCBA signed him up to be their Executive Director for three years. At the end of the contract he returned to be a partner in Messrs Kamil Hashim Pury & Lim to continue his work in the specialized area of Industrial Relations Department of the firm.
